Thousands of mushrooms, arsenal of guns, grenades seized from Oregon home

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A multi-agency investigation into a suspected illegal marijuana ring led authorities to a stockpile of mushrooms and guns found inside a home in Bandon, Ore. on Dec. 11, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

The South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team discovered the evidence while serving a search warrant at a home along Highway 101.

“Detectives seized over two thousand mushrooms containing suspected amounts of psilocybin, 49 firearms including short-barreled rifles and shotguns, many of which are suspected to be obtained illegally, various grenades, and marijuana processing equipment,” the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is providing the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with information about the case.

Charges are pending against 50-year-old Oregon resident Matthew Houglum and other suspected co-conspirators following the raid.

Oregon State Police, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Bandon Police, Coquille Police, North Bend Police, Coquille Tribal Police, Coos County Parole and Probation and the U.S Coast Guard drone unit all took part in the search.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
