New York Cares Coat Drive accepts donations to help those in need
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Despite mild autumn weather, December temperatures have dropped, with many nights hovering around or dropping below freezing.
New York Cares, one of the largest volunteer organizations in the metropolitan area, is once again hosting its annual coat drive. Now in its 36th year, the New York Cares Coat Drive runs through Feb. 29, 2025, and is seeking assistance providing coats for individuals in need this winter.
Those looking to help can either donate towards purchasing a new coat or drop off a new or gently used coat. Donations are tax-deductible and receipts will be provided.
Coat donations should be laundered or dry-cleaned before donation. To donate, find a public collection site near you on the Coat Drive Drop-Off map.
Homeless shelters, community organizations, and groups assisting those in need will distribute the coats.
The goal is to collect and distribute 85,000 coats this year. For all other winter items, including hats, sweaters, and gloves, visit donateNYC to find organizations that can distribute those items to people in need.
