AFTER cheering up millions of people around the world during lockdown, Granddad Joe has continued to shine on TikTok.

Encouraged by his beloved family, the legendary influencer is well known for his heartwarming videos. Here we take a look at Joe Allington’s story.

Born in 1933 and hailing from Lichfield, Joe Allington is a social media star.

Best known for TikTok, the influencer goes by the name Granddad Joe online.

After leaving school at 14 in the late 1940s, Joe was a petrol tanker driver for decades, before going to work in transport management.

He retired at the age of 65, before joining TikTok in 2020.

Joe was an instant hit, and told the BBC at the time: “I’ve found my second childhood, you know.”

Social media star

Joe has a whopping 7.9M followers on TikTok, and almost 260M likes.

The social media star is also popular on Instagram.

On the platform he has 1.2M followers (all stats are correct as of December 2024).

Speaking about his fame, Joe told the BBC: “I just don’t know why I’m popular.

“I’ve never been popular like that in my life.”

Meet Joe’s producer

Joe has previously revealed how he has little-to-no involvement in the videos he posts.

Instead, his daughter Wendy films and produces his videos and comes up with ideas for his content.

His granddaughters Brooke and Sasha also help out with his videos as well, and feature in them too.

Speaking to the BBC he said: “Wendy coerced me into doing little bits of acting for the videos, which I did, and it’s taken off from there.

“I quite enjoy being made up, dressed up, and made a fool of.

“Wendy says: ‘Dad, we’re doing TikTok, we’re doing this today.’ Then I just do as I’m told. I’m very obedient, you know.”

Joe also revealed he will have a go at anything except dance challenges.

“I’m not into waving my arms like that,” he explains. “I can’t do it!”
