Luigi Maggi re-elected President of the Italian Chess Federation
Luigi Maggi is re-elected President of the Italian Chess Federation at the elections for the President and members of the federation’s council that were held at the General Assembly of the federation.
Born in Rome in 1958, he is the 11th President of the Italian Chess Federation. He is also Vice-President of the National Coordination of the Associate Sports Disciplines (2023), a member of the Board of Directors of the Mitropa Chess Association which brings together 10 Federations of Central European countries (2021), a member of the Planning & Development Commission of FIDE (World Chess Federation).
His extensive experience as a sports executive began in the 80s first in basketball and then in chess. Since 2007, for thirteen years he has played in the Regional Committee of the F.S.I. Lazio, contributing to the considerable sporting development of the territory, and since 2012 he has been president. In the Federation he coordinated the training commission of sports managers and was a member of the Peripheral Organization Commission.
In CONI Lazio, since 2013 he has been part of the Technical Scientific Commission of the Regional School of Sport and the Regional Council and then elected in 2017 a member of the Board representing the DSA, a position he held until 2021 deepening the knowledge of the Italian sports system, moreover, in a period of great changes.
For his work of service to sport, in 2018 he was awarded by the Italian National Olympic Committee of the Bronze Star at Sports Merit and in 2021 of the Golden Star.
