Newcastle could offer £40m to sign Spurs player – Journalist claims

Journalist Ben Jacobs believes that Newcastle United are after one Tottenham man and that the Magpies could potentially be willing to pay around £40m for the player next summer.

There was plenty of optimism among Spurs fans when the Lilywhites paid £60m to sign Richarlison from Everton in the summer of 2022.

However, two-and-a-half years into his time at the North London club, one has to say that the deal has not worked, with the striker’s injury woes continuing to haunt him.

The Brazilian now faces an uphill battle to save his Spurs career, particularly considering the fact that the Lilywhites are expected to add to their attacking stocks in January.

Newcastle could make a move for Spurs’ Richarlison

Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the Magpies hold an interest in taking Richarlison to St James’ Park.

He explained that while Tottenham wanted £60m for the former Everton man last summer, Eddie Howe’s men would only be willing to offer around £40m to £45m for the player.

Jacobs said on NUFC Matters: “There is some substance to Richarlison and Newcastle, but the price is a big issue. Spurs have been adamant throughout 2024 that if they’re to entertain an offer, it’s £60m or more.

“Newcastle wouldn’t be looking at anywhere near that number given his injury record and form. If this were to develop, from Newcastle’s point of view, it would have to be around that £40m or £45m mark. Nothing is advanced or particularly concrete yet.”

Given Richarlison’s injury problems, Tottenham will be more than happy to take £40m for him next summer and cut their losses.

One would also expect the Lilywhites to bring another versatile forward through the door in January, thus pushing the 27-year-old further down the pecking order.
