7 bids submitted for Central Warehouse demolition

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Plans to demolish the Central Warehouse in Albany are moving forward. Albany County leaders said they received seven bids for the project.

Bids will be reviewed over the next several weeks. Officials have not said when the winning bid will be chosen.

Leaders decided in January to demolish the building after redevelopment plans fell through multiple times. New York State has agreed to provide $10 million in funding for the project. Albany County will pay $3 million.

The warehouse has become a safety hazard after pieces of concrete fell onto the railroad tracks and forced Amtrak to temporarily suspend service. Netting has been placed on the building to prevent more concrete from coming down.

Demolition is expected to cost between $12.5 million and $13 million, according to Albany County.
