Stowaway who flew from JFK to Paris is in custody again: sources
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The woman accused of stowing away on a Delta Airlines flight from JFK Airport to Paris was arrested in Buffalo on Monday, law enforcement sources told PIX11 News.
Svetlana Dali was taken into custody after allegedly cutting off her ankle monitor and taking a bus to the Canadian border where she was stopped and detained, sources said.
Her roommate in Philadelphia reportedly alerted authorities after finding the monitor, sources said.
Dali is due at the United States District Court for the Western District of New York on Tuesday for allegedly bail jumping and will be brought back to EDNY where her bail could be revoked pending a hearing, sources said.
According to the complaint filed in court, Dali allegedly snuck through a special lane for airline employees at JFK Airport, masked by a large flight crew on the night of Nov. 26 just before 8:30 p.m. This was after she was initially denied entry by the TSA at Terminal Four for not having a boarding pass, per the complaint.
Prosecutors said Dali was later able to bypass employees at the airline gate because they were busy helping other passengers and did not stop the woman for a ticket.
On the flight, Delta employees realized Dali had boarded without their consent and contacted French authorities to detain her, according to the complaint.
Law enforcement officials said Dali admitted to flying as a stowaway and intentionally looked for opportunities to bypass TSA.
Dali was flown back to the U.S. after causing a disturbance on two different flights to New York City, sources said.
