South Africa will go up against Pakistan as the two side kick off the three-match ODI series at the Boland Park at Paarl on Tuesday. The Proteas are coming into this series on a high after winning the series 2-0 with a second-string side led by Heinrich Klaasen.
The home side will have all of their top players back with the in-form Test skipper Temba Bavuma returning to lead the side in ODI cricket. Bavuma was the ‘Player of the Series’ in South Africa’s 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka in Tests earlier this month. But Bavuma will be missing the first ODI match in the series at Paarl and opener Aiden Markram will be leading the side instead. Seven other members of the ODI squad apart from Bavuma – Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada – were involved in the Test series vs SL.
Pakistan, on the other hand, will be led by Mohammad Rizwan and will look to build momentum in ODI cricket ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at home in a couple of months time. Rizwan is heading into this series after leading his side to a historic 2-1 series win over Australia down under last month.
This is the last ODI series for Pakistan before the ICC Champions Trophy at home in February and March next year.
