Bulgarian Navy’s second multi-purpose patrol vessel hits the water (Gallery)

Bulgarian shipbuilder MTG Dolphin Shipyard has unveiled that the Bulgarian Navy’s second multipurpose modular patrol vessel (MMPV) was launched at its shipyard.

As disclosed, the vessel, which is being built in cooperation with German NVL Group, was launched on December 12, 2024. The keel-laying ceremony for the MMPV was held in June 2023.

The ship, like its sister vessel, the first MMPV, will be 90 meters long with a displacement of 2,300 tons and will feature a wide variety of naval capabilities, supported by an integrated combat management system.

The units are planned for tasks within the framework of international alliance missions of NATO and the EU and will enable the Bulgarian Navy to counter air- and land-based threats as well as surface and underwater threats.

The first vessel in this series was launched in August last year, and its delivery is scheduled for the end of 2025. The second MMPV is expected to be delivered a year later.

To remind, in 2021, NVL Group, formerly Lürssen Defence, and its local shipyard partner MTG Dolphin announced the start of the construction process of the two patrol vessels. Both vessels are being built at MTG Dolphin under the management of NVL Group and with the involvement of numerous Bulgarian suppliers.
