NY encourages NYers to get outdoors with free first day hikes

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State invites New Yorkers to start the new year with free hikes. Governor Kathy Hochul said she is waiving parking fees at all state parks on New Year's Day to increase outdoor access.

This is the 14th year that the state has been doing the free first-day hikes. Admission to state parks is always free, but waiving the parking fee helps increase access to outdoor activities.

There are nearly 100 locations in the state where you can participate. There are plenty of hiking options with trails typically ranging from one to five miles.
