Promise of job in Dubai, sold in Pakistan, spent nights on roads, returned to India after…, this story will leave you shaken

It was a much-awaited family reunion for Hamida which took place after 22 years in Attari near Wagah border. Hamida Banu had been trafficked to Karachi in Pakistan. 

Hamida had gone to Qatar for a job as a cook in 2002. A man promised her another job in Dubai but he Trafficked her to Karachi, Pakistan. Hamida, a mother of four, lived on roads, stayed in a mosque and ran a shop for her living. 

She married a Pakistani man, Mohammed Dar, who died in 2010. In 2022, a YouTuber introduced her on social media when he interviewed her and she told him about the ordeal she faced. The YouTuber has known her since childhood.

You Tuber Walliullah Maroof’s video went viral. Hamida said that she and another woman, Shehnaz, were trafficked to Karachi. Shehnaz was a native of Bengaluru. 

The Indian embassy in Karachi took cognisance of her video and arranged an air ticket from Karachi to Lahore for her. She was repatriated to India at Wagah border where her relatives, son and daughters received her. 

When Hamida was asked about her feelings on heading back to India, she said she was very happy. When asked if it was a betrayal of Dar’s family and relatives, she replied that it was her zest that motivated her. 

The YouTuber said he is very happy that Hamida is going to reunite with her family and he will try for Shehnaz also that soon she would be repatriated to India.
