‘Can’t make up anything new’: KL Rahul opens up on change in batting plans in Gabba Test

New Delhi: Star India opener KL Rahul has said that the wickets in Perth and Brisbane have been very similar in terms of the pace and bounce and he just stuck to the basics to be successful at these venues, and there is no secret formula to it. He added that a solid defence and respect towards bowlers in the first 30 overs of his knock have been crucial to his success.

Rahul continues to leave a mark as a truly dependable batsman for India in the Australian tour. This was again highlighted on Tuesday when he bravely stood his ground and scored a solid 84 runs off 139 balls, in spite of a challenging game condition. His gallant display significantly contributed to the team finishing with 252/9 on the fourth day of the third Test that took place in Brisbane.

In the first Test hosted in Perth, Rahul shone brightly by pushing 77 runs up the scoreboard during the second innings. After an underwhelming show in the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide, he extraordinarily redeemed himself this Tuesday at Gabba.

“I mean not so far at least because I feel like Perth and Brisbane were quite similar in terms of how much pace and bounce the wickets had,” Rahul told the media at the end of the day’s play when asked if his plans have changed from one venue to another.

“So I’ve had a pretty simple plan for these two grounds. But now, once I’ve come here again, gone back to basics and try and play close to the body, leave balls, the basics, I can’t make up anything new and tell you,” Rahul added.

India’s well-renowned bowler, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep surprisingly joined forces for an impressive 39-run collaboration for the 10th wicket. This unexpected partnership has saved India from a follow on. Due to the consistent rain, the match is possibly heading towards a standstill, despite Australia’s impressive gameplay amidst the rain-soaked Test match.

“Yes, very good to see when the lower order chips in and scores runs. That’s something that we discuss a lot in our meetings and the bowlers work hard on their batting as well,” Rahul said.
