A WOMAN has revealed that she is excited to spend Christmas with her partner’s parents, but there’s a catch…his other girlfriend will be there too.
Leanne Yau is polyamorous, meaning that she dates more than one person at a time, with all parties aware of and consenting to the relationship.
Currently, she is in a serious relationship with a man, who also has another girlfriend.
The trio are not in a throuple, as Leanne is not romantically involved with the other girlfriend, but she said that they are great friends.
This will be the first time that Leanne’s boyfriends parents are meeting his second girlfriend, and Leanne said that she is “really excited” for the occasion.
“I really hope they like her,” she said in a video posted to her TikTok account.
To make sure that Christmas runs smoothly, the trio set up a video call in November, so that Leanne’s partner’s parents could ask all of the “awkward” questions they had about the dynamic.
“This way we can just focus on the festivities when the time comes,” she said.
They have also made the decision to extend their stay from one night to two, so that Leanne gets to spend one night with her boyfriend, and his other girlfriend gets to have him on the other night.
“The three of us are not sharing a bed, I would overheat,” she said.
Thankfully, Leanne said that her partner’s parents are “literally the coolest people ever”, so are very accepting of the unconventional relationship.
She added that this will be the first time she is spending Christmas with a partner who also has another partner.
“This isn’t the first Christmas I’ve had in a polyamorous relationship, of course – it’s just that in previous years, I dated someone who was married but things never really got serious enough to spend extended time with family,” she explained.
Leanne’s (@polyphiliablog) video has gone viral, with TikTokers racing to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on the unconventional relationship.
One person said: “We are a throuple and having to visit three (supportive) families across 400 miles.
“It’s exhausting but lovely!”
What is polyamory?
Polyamory is the practice of having romantic relationships with more than one person at the same time, with the knowledge and consent of all parties.
It can refer to relationships where one person has multiple partners or spouses, or where all parties are in a relationship with each other, for example in a throuple.
According to You Gov, 6.8% of people in the UK have been in a polyamorous relationship.
A second person said: “That sounds like a lot of work to be honest.”
A third person said: “I just did something similar for Thanksgiving where my girlfriend joined me and my wife at my parent’s house.
