THOUSANDS are without water across the UK as schools have been forced to close due to a “technical fault”.

The issues are affecting supplies across Southampton, Romsey, Eastleigh and the New Forest, Southern Water has said.

The company this morning announced that it was working to fix the problem, but that this was ” going to take time”.

Three schools have announced they are closing – including Noadswood School, Greenwood School and Manor CofE Infants.

Seven more have sent pupils home, according to Hampshire County Council.

These include North Baddesley Infant School, Halterworth in the Test Valley, The New Forest Academy, Cadland Primary School, Wildground in the New Forest, Mountbatten School Romsey and Orchard Jumior School.

Stephanie Davidovitz, Head of Water Networks at Southern Water said: “Our Testwood Water Supply works has run into some issues.

“We are working through plans to look at how we can restore supply in some areas but it is an emerging issue.”
