‘I’m not paying that amount to have a jobby’ joke Scottish shoppers after spotting item’s hilarious name in John Lewis

A QUIRKY cat table lamp called Jobby has made a splash with Scots for all the wrong reasons over its poo-like name.

The decorative black and white puss is being sold by high street giant John Lewis for a whopping £242.

But judging by the reactions online Scots customers won’t be wiping the shelves clean to get their paws on the lit kit this Christmas.

One Scots punter took to social media after spotting the porcelain pussy’s iffy whiffy name.

And he wondered if anyone in the store’s marketing team had a clue what jobby means in Scotland.

He wrote on X: “If there’s any Scottish people looking for a job in branding or marketing, I think there’s a vacancy at John Lewis because there’s clearly no Scottish person working there at the moment.”

Another tickled web user agreed, sharing a photo of Jobby, and adding: “When you don’t do market research in Scotland.”

Someone else joked: “I’m not paying that amount to have a jobby.”

A no-nonsense observer jokingly branded it “utter s**”.

Meanwhile, a fifth added: “This surely was the Scottish work experience kid seeing what they could get away with! Bravo!”

But not everyone turned up their nose at the poo moniker with one smitten cat lover telling other would-be buyers: “Jobby looks amazing on my landing.”

She added: “My husband and I have both done double takes thinking one of our cats had gone upstairs.

“Very lifelike size well worth the money if you love cats and something a bit different.”

The cat also seemed to make a splash with Dutch customers with one fan also impressed by the controversial location of its on/off switch.

He purred: “Very nice decorative lamp. Mainly purchased as a decorative object. Not really useful as a light source.

“Very funny that you operate the lamp with the cat’s golden balls.

“This may earn you the nickname ‘ball fondler’ because of that mechanism.”

Cat lovers keen to get their claws into an expensive Jobby also have an interest-free option to pay in instalments of £40.33 over six months.

One delighted buyer who splashed out on the oddly-named lamp left a glowing review on the store’s website.

Badger Boy, of Milton Keynes wrote: “I am without words to describe the absolute joy this product has brought me.

“Go on spoil yourself, if nothing else this is an amazing ice breaker and conversation starter.”

A John Lewis spokesperson told the Record: “This feline table lamp is designed in Lombardy, so you could say he’s an Italian Jobby, but we’re glad this faux paw has brightened the day for our Scottish customers.”
