Potentially good news for the rook.

Former Blue Devil Jared McCain underwent knee surgery on Tuesday that the Philadelphia 76ers described as “successful.”

You’ll recall that he hurt his knee in a game against Indiana last week. It’s still unclear how serious the injury was - if it was a full repair of his meniscus, he’ll be back relatively soon but likely months rather than weeks. If he had what is called a meniscectomy, that’s more serious. Hopefully it was relatively straightforward and he’ll make a full recovery.

McCain had emerged as the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year and he would have been Duke’s second in recent years, following Paolo Banchero’s win two years ago.

Coincidentally, Banchero is out with an injury of his own, in his case an oblique. He was supposed to be back about now but reportedly is not close to returning.
