Disney removes transgender storyline from animated series: Reports

Disney reportedly removed a transgender storyline from the upcoming animated series "Win or Lose," explaining some parents preferred to avoid the topic.

The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the change to the series, cited a Disney spokesperson confirming the removal.

“When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline,” a Disney spokesperson said in an emailed statement to The Hill.

The removal from “Win or Lose” revolved around the gender identity of a character, with some dialogue lines being changed.

The Pixar animated film is described as an original series that “follows the intertwined stories of eight different characters as they each prepare for their big championship softball game” on Disney’s streaming service Disney+. The series will stream on the platform in February.

“The series reveals what it actually feels like to be in the shoes of each character — the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick umpire — with incredibly funny, very emotional, and uniquely animated perspectives,” the Disney+ description continues.

The reports of the removal come amid backlash against transgender rights, mostly on the right, which President-elect Trump tapped into throughout his campaign against Vice President Harris.

A few Democrats have called for the party to rethink its approach to the issue, particularly around transgender women playing in women's sports.
