Celtics Issue Statement Regarding Jaylen Brown Home Burglary

An attempted break-in was made on the Wellesley, Mass., home owned by Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown on Sunday night, per multiple reports.

Brown was with the Celtics in the nation’s capital as they earned a win over the Washington Wizards. Brown’s mother, Mechalle, is listed on the property records for the home, per Boston.com’s Molly Farrar.

The Celtics issued a statement Wednesday night when news of the incident broke, per WBZ’s Steve Burton:

“The safety of Celtics players, families, and staff is of the utmost importance to us. We are aware of the recent incidents and are working with authorities. The team will have no further comment at this time.”

According to Farrar, three men tried to force their way into the home. Wellesley Lieutenant Marie Cleary told Farrar that it didn’t “appear that anything was taken from the residence” and that the matter was still under investigation.

Brown is just the latest professional athlete to have his home targeted by burglars. Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce had their homes broken into in October. The same thing happened to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow this month.

NBA veterans Bobby Portis and Mike Conley also had their homes targeted. The NBA and NFL last month urged players to take protective measures at their homes.
