'The most awful thing': Mother grieves loss of Gresham woman killed after argument over loud music
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A mother is grieving the loss of her daughter after investigators say she was fatally shot in the head at a Gresham apartment complex following an argument about loud music earlier this month.
Twenty-six-year-old suspect Kuian Kellum, who was initially arrested for attempted murder following the shooting, is expected to face additional charges related to the death of Susan Henson, the Gresham Police Department said.
Henson's mom, Rhonda, says losing a daughter is "the most awful thing you can imagine."
"There's no words to explain how angry you feel when somebody does something so stupid like that," she said.
Police say Henson and her boyfriend, Gabriel Todd, heard loud music in the parking lot of their apartment on SE Pleasant View Drive in Gresham.
When the couple went to check it out, they found Kellum and his girlfriend. After a brief altercation, Todd allegedly pepper-sprayed Kellum, which led to Kellum firing three gunshots.
One of the shots hit Henson in the back of the head.
Rhonda says it was just a couple of days later when her daughter died at OHSU.
"My son was there, and he was really close to his sister, and Gabe was there, and we just sat. Even though she was gone, we sat and held her hands, just spent as much time as we could with her," Rhonda said.
She says she wants justice to be served for her daughter, who was her closest friend.
"She truly was a good person, and she would want anybody that's grieving, to just build her up and go on from there," Rhonda said.
Rhonda also said she wants to thank the staff at OHSU for being so kind to Henson and her family during their time there.
Henson was an organ donor, so she was able to donate her heart, lungs and liver.
A GoFundMe has been created for Henson's funeral expenses.
