SEE IT: Snowy owls the latest residents to call Bronx Zoo home

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – There are some new birds in town at the Bronx Zoo.

On Tuesday, the Bronx Zoo introduced its latest residents — a pair of snowy owls — in an Instagram post.

“This is the first time the two owls have been introduced, and we are eager to see how they acclimate,” the social media post read. “According to their keepers, our female is known for being quite fierce, and our male has a shy disposition and is still getting used to his surroundings.”

The male bird loves to eat mice, and he naps up high on his perch, according to officials.

“I adore snowy owls,” said Adamfromjersey on the social media post. “[I] look forward to winter viewing at the BZ. Looking forward to seeing the latest addition!❤️”

According to All About Birds, the snowy owl is the largest bird in North America by weight. It appears irregularly in winter but sometimes remains on its breeding grounds year-round.

New Yorkers and tourists can see the owls at the "Birds of Prey" exhibit at the Bronx Zoo.
