The Goat’s Surf Forecast and Christmas Message

Surf forecast issued Thursday 19 December 2024: Seven day outlook for Sydney

TG’s Christmas Surf Forecast

The days now leading up to Christmas look like having waves of some sort. May not be top quality or at all places but better than nothing.

Winds may be blowy at times – another Southerly is expected by the Bureau for Monday – but light at others. Pick your time/s and place/s to get wet.

It looks like some traditional cracker Sydney Christmas weather ahead with sunshine and warm days, and enough movement in the water to try out all the new surfing toys Santa brings.

With Easterlies expected at times, some less welcome “traditonal” visitors –  Bluebottles – might put in an appearance. TG saw a tasty one on the beach a day or so ago.

Best treatment – carefully pull off any blue stingers left on the skin with the tips of your fingers (you wont get stung). Wash sting site with hot water or a hot shower. Rinse in cold water if no hot is available. Sit and rest in the shade. If things start to feel worse, get  help from surf lifesavers/lifeguards if you’re at a patrolled beach, or get someone to take you to a medical centre or hospital.

Friday: around 1-1+ metres South East

Saturday: ditto East South East

Sunday: ditto ditto

Monday: similar or a bit more from the North East, ahead of a southerly change, which will mess conditions around and start to bring up the sell briefly at places open to the South

Tuesday: somehwere in the 1-2 metre range at places open to due South

Wednesday: Christmas day: easing back a bit, say 1-1+ metres at places open to the South. less wind and small at protected corners

Thursday: Boxing Day (Sydney Hobart start light/ North East winds expected) somewhere around 1-1+ metres South South East

TG’s Christmas Message

Merry Christmas to everyone!  Chill out in the Surf. Relax in the shade. Catch up with and enjoy family and friends if you can.

If you’re nort experienced, don’t swim at unpatrolled beaches – eg in National Parks. Statistics show that’s where nearly all drownings on the NSW coastline occur. Swim at the flags at patrolled beaches.  Experience over  the past 100 plus years shows that is the safest place to swim on our active surf coastline.

Have Fun and stay safe!
