Flat earther who travelled to Antarctica to prove he’s right proves he’s wrong

One of the world’s most famous ‘flat earthers’ travelled all the way to Antarctica to prove his point, but when he got there he realised he was wrong.

Jeran Campanella is one of the world’s most avid believers that the earth is flat. He even runs the popular flat earth YouTube channel ‘Jeranism.’

He was also certain that Antarctica is just an ‘ice wall’ where the sun rises and sets every day – so he travelled to the coldest continent on the planet to prove his point.

But when he got there Campanella realised that ‘everyone else’ was right – the sun doesn’t rise in Antarctica during the southern hemisphere’s summer.

In a video posted following his visit, the American admitted: ‘Sometimes you are wrong in life, I thought there was no 24-hour sun. In fact, I was pretty sure of it.

‘The sun does in fact circle in the south, what that means you can figure out for yourself.

‘But you should be able to accept now that the sun does exactly what these guys said – it circles the southern continent.

‘I’ll live to see another day and now I can admit that I’ve seen it.’

Later in the clip, Campanella acknowledges that people might see him as a ‘shill’ – someone paid to sell something – for admitting he was wrong.

He said: ‘I honestly believed that there was no 24-hour sun and I now honestly believe that there is.

‘If you want to call me a shill, so be it.’

The YouTuber apparently only agreed to the trip, which costs almost £30,000, because his friend said he’d pay for it.

Campanella, who evidently admitted that the sun does rise in the south, did refrain from admitting that the earth is spherical though.

As anyone who grew up with a map of the world will know, Antarctica is the world’s coldest continent and is situated at the most southern part of the planet.

Due to the tilt of earth, the sun in the continent does not set during the southern hemisphere’s summer – it just moves in a circle in the sky.

So, at these points, the sun remains visible throughout the day – including during the night, a phenomenon called the ‘midnight sun.’

Flat earthers like Campanella have convinced themselves that Antarctica is merely an ice wall that encircles the world and holds in its oceans.

Similarly, that the continent sees the sun rise and set every day regardless of whether it’s the summer or not.

Following Campenella’s recent admission, however, a few flat earthers may have been prompted to question such a conspiracy theory.
