Patriots Rumors: Update On Jerod Mayo’s Future Amid Public Outcries

Patriots fans and some pundits want to see a head coaching change, but they might not get their wish.

Jerod Mayo made his seat even hotter after a putrid loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15. It was a poor outing after a bye week and speculation over his New England future grew with reports around Mike Vrabel possibly replacing him. Robert Kraft and Jonathan Kraft getting caught on camera seemingly voicing their displeasure over the team’s play also didn’t help matters.

However, NFL insider Adam Schefter went on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Thursday and offered an update on Mayo’s job status.

“The Kraft family also stands behind him,” Schefter said. “… Ownership has stood behind him and is not planning on making any changes, but there’s still three weeks left for him.”

Mayo calling out his team’s play-calling doesn’t bode well for offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, so it’s possible there could be a different change on the staff.

The Patriots’ end-of-season schedule will be daunting for Mayo’s side. They play the Buffalo Bills twice and the Los Angeles Chargers, so it’s very likely that outcries over Mayo’s job status won’t cease despite reports indicating it is safe.
