World’s largest menorah arrives in Manhattan for holiday season

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The world’s largest menorah is in Manhattan!

The 32-foot-tall steel menorah was assembled on Fifth Avenue and 59th Street Thursday across from the Plaza Hotel, where it will stay through the new year.

Starting on Dec. 25, the menorah will be lit each night of Hanukkah through Jan. 1. The 4,000-pound menorah is the largest in the world. Another massive menorah will be lit in Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza during the holiday.

In Manhattan, the lighting ceremonies will happen at 5:30 p.m. nightly except on Dec. 27, when the lighting starts at 3:45 p.m., and on Dec. 28, which is at 8:30 p.m.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the world's first public menorah lighting in Philadelphia, according to a spokesperson for Chabad-Lubavitch.
