Jesse Eisenberg Reveals the Surprising Role He Says 'Hurt My Career'
Jesse Eisenberg is opening up one of his roles that did not have a good impact on his career.
The 41-year-old actor and director made an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast and recalled a performance that was “poorly received,” along with the movie as a whole.

“I was in this Batman movie and the Batman movie was so poorly received, and I was so poorly received,” he shared, referring to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was released in 2016. He played villain Lex Luthor.
“I’ve never said this before, and it’s kind of embarrassing to admit, but I genuinely think it actually hurt my career in a real way because I was poorly received in something so public,” Jesse said. “In the industry, if you’re in a huge, huge movie and not seen as good, the people who are choosing who to put next in their movie are just not gonna select you.”
“I’ve been in poorly received things that just don’t see the light of day. For the most part, no one knows,” he added. “But this was so public, and I don’t read notices or reviews or movie press or anything. So I was unaware of how poorly it was received.”
He then revealed how the negative perception of his role and the movie affected him.
“I loved my role and I loved the movie, doing it and everything. So I feel just myself to blame. I’m not like they did me wrong. No. I’m like, ‘Oh, I guess I did something wrong there,’” he said.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did well at the box office, garnering over $800 million. However, as he said, the reviews were just not good.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the superhero flick has a 29% critic score and a 63% audience score.
One of Jesse‘s movies that IS being received well is his recent film A Real Pain, which he wrote, directed, produced and stars in. The movie is getting Oscars buzz for his co-star Kieran Culkin, as well as him for directing/writing.
