Vance: Dems wanted a shutdown — and that's 'exactly what they’re going to get'

A frustrated Vice President-elect J.D. Vance gave a curt message to Democrats on Thursday after the GOP-led House funding bill imploded: Be careful what you wish for.

Republicans fell well short of the required 290 "yes" votes to pass the bill, securing just 174. Thirty-eight Republicans voted against the deal, setting the federal government up to shut down at midnight Friday.

Vance blamed Democrats for the House's failure to avert a holiday shutdown and said they're trying to prevent President-elect Donald Trump from "negotiating leverage" when he returns to the Oval Office next year, according to CNN.

“The Democrats just voted to shut down the government even though we had a clean [continuing resolution], because they didn’t want to give the president negotiating leverage during his first term — the first year of his new term. And No. 2, because they would rather shut down the government and fight for global censorship bulls---, they’ve asked for a shutdown and I think that’s exactly what they’re going to get,” Vance said.

A government shutdown would impact millions of federal workers across the United States. About 2.2 million civilian federal employees stand to be impacted during the holiday season, either forced to work without pay or facing furlough. Another 2 million military personnel could see delayed paychecks.
