A spirited display by Tottenham against Manchester United

For Tottenham Hotspur, the Carabao Cup has provided a rare opportunity to rediscover their form and confidence in a season marked by inconsistency.

Their quarter-final clash against Manchester United saw the Lilywhites deliver a performance that encapsulated both their attacking flair and some defensive resilience, though not without moments of fragility.

The match began with Dominic Solanke giving Spurs the perfect start, finding the net in the 15th minute with a clinical finish.

As the first half unfolded, both teams created opportunities, but neither could capitalise, and the scoreline remained 1-0 at the interval. It was in the second half, however, that the game truly sprang to life.

Dejan Kulusevski doubled Tottenham’s lead just two minutes after the restart, seizing on a defensive lapse to slot home confidently.

Seven minutes later, Solanke struck again, this time with a composed finish that left the visitors seemingly deflated. Yet, the narrative took a dramatic turn as two errors from Fraser Forster handed Manchester United a lifeline.

Joshua Zirkzee’s strike in the 63rd minute and Amad Diallo’s effort in the 70th brought the score to a nerve-wracking 3-2, leaving Spurs clinging to their advantage.

Despite the mounting pressure, Spurs captain Heung-min Son provided a crucial moment of relief, curling in a sensational goal directly from a corner in the 88th minute to restore their two-goal cushion.

A cushion that was shortlived as the Red Devils got a third later in additional time, however, it was not enough as Ange Postecoglou’s side got the victory and secured a place in the semi-finals.
