Angelina Jolie Shared the Heartfelt Way Her Sons Maddox & Pax Comforted Her After a Hard Day on Set
When Angelina Jolie’s sons Maddox, 23, and Pax, 21, helped as production assistants on set of Jolie’s biopic Maria, they saw a side of their mom they’ve never really seen before — and things got so emotional!
“The character [Callas] has a lot of pain and they’ve of course seen me go through a lot of things, but they hadn’t experienced me expressing a lot of the pain that usually a parent hides from a child,” the Maleficent star told BBC recently.
Jolie, who shares Maddox, Pax, and kids Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, Knox, 16, and Vivienne, 16, with ex-husband Brad Pitt, shared that showing her kids pain through acting is “a new way” of figuring out how to honestly depict feelings with her children “in an even greater way.”
She also revealed how they comforted her after those intense moments. “So they were there to witness some of that, but then we would hug or they would bring me cups of tea,” she added.
Isn’t that so sweet? I love how they saw her pain and decided to cheer her up with hugs and cups of tea instead of just ignoring it or feeling strange about it. We are huge fans of moms being real with their kids and showing their emotions — even the hard ones! — and we love how positively this turned out for Jolie and her sons.
Another lesson this film taught her sons? The importance of working hard to get what you want. Jolie told the outlet that Pax recorded her singing practice for the film, “so he was with me in my early horrible days,” she said with a laugh.
“It’s always good for your children to watch your mum not do something easily, but swear and fight and fail and have to try again,” Jolie continued. “So that’s an important and beautiful thing.”
In an interview on Good Morning America last month, Jolie shared how important motherhood is to her. “It’s my happiness,” the humanitarian said. “You can take everything else away from me. Nothing else matters.”
She also talked about her character in Maria and how she can relate to her. “There’s obvious things that people would tie our lives and see we have in common,” Jolie said. “But I think it’s more … how hard she is in herself with her work, sometimes seen as strong, but actually very vulnerable and human. I certainly am.”
Angelina Jolie is a mom of six — and the way she dotes on her kids is adorable!
