‘The Wild Robot’ leads the way at 2025 Annie Awards nominations
The Wild Robot continues to emerge as the animated feature to beat this season after leading the nominations for the 2025 Annie Awards.
The Universal Pictures film from DreamWorks Animation led the way with 10 nominations today, followed by Disney-Pixar’s record-breaking blockbuster Inside Out 2 and Netflix’s latest from Aardman, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, with seven mentions apiece. All three films are up for Best Feature, joined by That Christmas, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Ultraman: Rising.
These awards are voted on by professional and patron members of ASIFA-Hollywood who have two or more professional animation credits and contributed professional services over the last two years that contributed to animated projects. While this is a peer group award like the Oscars, but the Annie winners don’t always match the Motion Picture Academy’s.
In the last five years, the Annies and the Oscars only had two winners in common: Soul (2020) and Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022). The 2019 Annie winner was Klaus, which beat the eventual Oscar champ Toy Story 4. The Annies picked The Mitchells vs. The Machines for 2021, over Oscar winner Encanto. And for 2023 the award went to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse instead of Oscar winner The Boy and the Heron. Will they split again this year or be back in lockstep? These awards will be handed out on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 in Los Angeles.
