Marcelo Alcala was signed at age 17 out of Venezuela to end the 2022 international signing period and now has two seasons under his belt in the slow roll of the DSL. In both, he has proven he can hit.

Alcala was a mainstay of the DSL Sox in 2024, as one of six core regulars to play as many as 40 games. He led the squad in triples (five), runs (34), homers (tied, three), steals (13), HBP (10), slugging (.441), OPS (.810), and ISO (.169). Unfortunately, he also topped the team in Ks (54) and the not altogether bad but let’s stroke our chins concerningly BABIP (.420).

One notable development from his rookie to sophomore season in the DSL was with his base-stealing, now a weapon rather than a raw tool.
