Justice Thomas hit with new allegations of undisclosed jet and yacht trips: report

Early Saturday morning, Senate Democrats released the results of an investigation that alleges that Justice Clarence Thomas once again failed to disclose trips paid for by one of his billionaire benefactors.

According to a report from the Washington Post's Justin Jouvenal, a 20-month investigation conducted by Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee turned up previously undisclosed Thomas jet and yacht travel in New York paid for by billionaire Harlan Crow in 2021.

Pointing to evidence that gifts and travel benefits lavished on Thomas came from individuals with business before court, the 93-page report bluntly states, "The number, value, and extravagance of the gifts accepted by Justice Thomas have no comparison in modern American history."

Commenting on the findings, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) asserted, " Now more than ever before, as a result of information gathered by subpoenas, we know the extent to which the Supreme Court is mired in an ethical crisis of its own making. It’s clear that the justices are losing the trust of the American people at the hands of a gaggle of fawning billionaires.”

The Post's Jouvenal wrote, "The investigation also found that the Judicial Conference of the United States, the body responsible for setting guidelines and looking into lapses by federal judges, has failed to adequately address the ethical issues that have repeatedly rocked the high court, even making a change that the report says weakened judicial ethics guidelines.

The Post is reporting that Republicans did not take part in the investigation.
