Vancouver English teacher booked on sex charge

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A high school English teacher was arrested in Vancouver Friday and booked for sexual misconduct with a minor, KOIN 6 News confirmed.

Shadbreon Gatson was placed on administrative leave at Hudson's Bay High School, officials with the school and the Vancouver school district told parents in a letter late Friday.

The investigation into Gatson's behavior began in November and school officials cooperated with the investigation, Principal Val Seeley and Superintendent Jeff Snell said in the letter.

The exact nature of the "inappropriate behavior" was not revealed by officials or by law enforcement.

"We know it can be frustrating not to have all the details during an ongoing investigation. However, sharing information prematurely could jeopardize the investigation, hinder the process of accountability, and compromise the integrity of the findings," the letter to parents said. "Please know that the safety and well-being of your children and our entire school community remain our highest priority. We are dedicated to being as transparent as possible while honoring the legal process and protecting the integrity of investigations as we continue to work with law enforcement."

Gatson is being held without bail in the Clark County Jail. His first court appearance is expected Monday afternoon.

KOIN 6 News will have more information as it develops.
