Festive preview: Home double - including Boxing Day derby

The festive season is set to be a busy one for Royal Wootton Bassett Town with three Hellenic League Premier Division games between Boxing Day and New Year's Day - including two at the Sustain Stadium. The highlight is set to be the derby visit of Corsham Town on Boxing Day (1pm kick off) as Sam Collier's side look to end the curse that the Quarrymen have held over Bassett since joining the Hellenic League. Corsham have won all seven league meetings since then - including a 5-1 triumph in the reverse fixture in August, as well as the sides' FA Vase encounter on penalties two seasons ago. The teams' fortunes have gone in opposite directions since their August meeting though, with Corsham hitting an inconsistent run of form and Bassett flying back into playoff contention. Still, both teams remain in the playoff mix, separated by eight points. Their Boxing Day clash promises to be the first game between the teams in recent years in which Bassett can count themselves as slight favourites. Now Collier and his team have to deliver to finally break Bassett's Corsham curse - as well as end a festive hoodoo which has seen Bassett win just three of the last ten fixtures played immediately after Christmas. Indeed, Bassett's last Boxing Day win came all the way back in 2012 against Purton. Then on Saturday 28 December Bassett welcome Pershore Town to the Sustain Stadium (3pm kick off). Only the third ever meeting between the sides, Bassett will be seeking their first win against the Plums after a 3-2 away defeat and 1-1 draw at home last season. Pershore are a side who still have an outside shot at reaching the playoffs - but they'll need to win in Wiltshire to help strengthen their chances and close the gap on the teams above them, including Bassett. Admission for both home fixtures is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Then, as is becoming tradition, Bassett ring in the new year with a trip to Herefordshire to take on Hereford Pegasus on 1 January (3pm kick off). Bassett were 4-1 winners away at Hereford Lads Club on New Year's Day last year (having beaten Pegasus 3-2 two days before). And Collier and his side will be seeking a season double over Pegasus having recorded a 4-0 victory against their opponents in October.
