Lara Trump buried on MSNBC for bailing on Senate bid for 'big' January announcement
A decision by Lara Trump to withdraw her name from consideration to fill Sen. Marco Rubio's seat representing Florida was greeted with skepticism and no small amount of mirth on MSNBC on Sunday morning.
Late Saturday night, just days after she reaffirmed she was very interested in taking Rubio's place after he was nominated by her father-in-law to be his next secretary of state, the wife of Eric Trump issued a statement explaining, "I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida," before announcing a "big announcement" to come in January.

After sharing the statement on MSNBC's "The Weekend," co-host Symone Sanders Townsend laughed out loud, Alicia Menedez grinned and looked skeptical and Michael Steele smirked behind his hand.
"Michael, what you think happened?" Sanders Townsend asked her co-host.
"She wasn't qualified for the job," he shot back.
"Well, she's not the only one," she replied. "I mean, Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth..."
"That's different," he explained. "Who controls the Senate seat? Donald Trump doesn't control the Senate seat. The governor of the state controls the Senate seat and I would think the governor of the state said, this is not happening –– it's just not happening."
Noting Lara Trump's attempt to style herself as a songstress which has been highly ridiculed, co-host Menedez offered, "I never make predictions, but I want to go on record I think the big January announcement is a new hit single," as her co-hosts burst out laughing.
