What to know about parking at John Glenn International ahead of holiday travel

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – As holiday travelers make their way to John Glenn Columbus International Airport, they can expect to see construction and some parking changes.

On Dec. 9, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority broke ground on a terminal that will centralize security, add gates and allow the airport to serve more customers. The project is expected to be completed by 2029 and has resulted in changes to the airport’s parking options.

The Blue Lot closest to the existing terminal has permanently closed to make way for construction. To accommodate parking needs, the airport has expanded the Red Lot next to it, adding 2,550 spots. Parking in the Red Lot costs $9 per day.

The Green Lot, at 3256 E. 17th Ave., will also remain open. Parking in this lot costs $8 per day. A shuttle picks passengers up from both the Red and Green lots to bring them to the terminal. Parking shuttles operate 24/7 and loops between the parking lots and terminals about every 15 minutes.

The walking lot is an option for those who would like to walk to the terminal instead of taking a shuttle. The walk takes approximately 10 minutes, and parking costs $15 per day.

The parking garage remains open and is connected to the terminal. Long-term parking costs $6 for the first hour, then $23 per day.  The garage also offers short-term parking, which is ideal for those parking for less than a day, on level four. Short-term parking costs $5 for the first hour and $30 per day.

The garage is the only option for covered parking. It offers cleaning services from Vohnt Car Care for an extra charge and electric vehicle chargers. The airport’s phone lot also remains open. It is intended for those waiting to pick someone up and is free to use.

As part of the new terminal project, a parking garage will be constructed next to the rental car center, with an elevated walkway connecting both to the terminal.

All parking areas have designated handicap spaces. Shuttle buses are also equipped with lift gear to accommodate wheelchairs and electric scooters.
