Plane CRASHES in field after take-off from Scots airport as emergency crews race to scene
A PLANE has crashed in a field after taking off from a Scots airport.
Emergency services raced to a meadow near Fife Airport this morning after a light aircraft plummeted from the sky.
Mercy crews in high-vis vests and protective gear scrambled to the crash site amid an ongoing rescue mission.
The plane crashed in the Kinglassie area, near to the runway where it took off.
It is currently unclear how many people were on the aircraft and the extent of their injuries.
Police have locked down the area as they begin their investigation into the crash.
They are being assisted by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who have deployed three crews including a heavy rescue unit to the scene.
A force spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance near Fife Airport after a light aircraft crashed at 11.40am on Monday, 23 December, 2024. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service blue-lighted two appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the incident.
A spokesman said: “We were alerted at 11.38am on Monday, 23 December, to an incident involving a light aircraft near Kinglassie, Fife.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the scene to assist emergency services partners.
“Crews remain in attendance.”
It’s understood additional emergency crews arrived at the incident by helicopter.
Fife Airport is located three miles west of Glenrothes and offers light aircraft travel and skydives.
The runway sits just under 30 miles north of Edinburgh.
