Fitness Influencer Dies After Being Shot in Robbery Attempt
A fitness influencer in Southern California who owned of a chain of fitness centers has died three months after he was shot in a robbery attempt.
According to KTLA 5, the Los Angeles Police Department say that Self Made Training Facility CEO Miguel Angel Aguilar, 43, was approached by four men in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sept. 13. The men allegedly demanded his property, though what property is unclear, before firing several shots at Aguilar and hitting him multiple times.
Aguilar was hospitalized in critical condition, and at the time, a post on the Self Made Training Facility Instagram page said that he had been involved in a "serious incident" and was "currently fighting bravely in the intensive care unit." Unfortunately, the company said in an update on Sunday that Aguilar had succumbed to his injuries and had "peacefully passed away on Dec. 21 surrounded by his loved ones."
"Miguel was more than just a leader; he was a visionary, an inspiration, a mentor, a father, a husband, family, and a dear friend to many," the post read. "His unwavering dedication to Self Made Training Facility, his passion for the fitness industry and entrepreneurial spirit have left an enduring legacy."
Aguilar had been married to celebrity hair extensionist Priscilla Valles and the couple shared two daughters.
Founded by Aguilar, Self Made Training Facility is a chain of fitness centers geared towards athletes and personal trainers, which also provided mentorship to trainers to help them grow their businesses and earning potential. The chain boasts 26 locations across the country with 20 in California alone, and also sells apparel, supplements, equipment and its own line of bottled water.
Three men have since been charged with murder and robbery in the case, but a motive is unclear or if Aguilar was specifically targeted in the attack.
