Elephant Rumblings: Remembering Rickey
MLB news roundup
It’s Monday, Athletics Nation.
2024 has arguably been the worst year ever for us A’s fans, with the organization’s relocation plans solidifying—at least to the point of leaving Oakland, where the final games at the Coliseum are now relegated to history.
Now, the brightest star in Oakland’s A’s history is gone. At just 65, Rickey Henderson passed away in Oakland on Friday. He would have turned 66 on Christmas. Rickey’s death has shocked the baseball world, with fellow players, managers, executives, and journalists offering an outpouring of tributes and fond memories of the first ballot Hall of Fame inductee and greatest leadoff hitter and base stealer of all time.
Today, I offer few words but have compiled thoughts on Rickey from across the baseball community, beginning with AN’s Connor Ashford and continuing with friends, teammates, and voices of prominence from major sites and publications.
Rest in Power, Rickey Henderson.

I can’t explain what someone who was present in every memory, childhood to today, means to me or what it means to cope with having no more tomorrows alongside him.
