Negotiations for jail location stall between OKC City Council, Oklahoma County Commissioners

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Negotiations in a lawsuit involving Oklahoma County Commissioners and OKC City Council stalled on Monday. The groups met to discuss an agreement on for the proposed county jail and mental health facility location.

The city walked out of mediation after eight long hours of talks. According to commissioners, the city said they would let the county know when they were ready to come back to the table. Commissioners told KFOR they were prepared to stay until midnight to work out a deal.

The jail site, located off East Grand in southeast Oklahoma City, has been a topic of tension for both sides.

Commissioners filed a lawsuit against city council for refusing to allow a rezoning permit for the land.

District 3 Commissioner Myles Davidson, who was in mediation Monday, said last week that the county has asked the city to agree to these terms: keep the site at East Grand, adopt a special permit for the jail location, pay the county’s legal fees, and operate and manage a bus stop at the jail.

There’s no word on when the two will continue mediation.
