Kim Kardashian’s “Santa Baby” Is the Holiday Gift We Didn’t See Coming
Calling all cinephiles: Kim Kardashian has released a four-minute experimental Christmas film for her cover of “Santa Baby,” directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis, and produced by her brother-in-law, Travis Barker. The conceit, if I had to conjure it from a first watch, is something like: Sexy housewife of drug lord drops too much valium into her eggnog and crawls dizzily around the house. Kim is already breathless from the first note. Every prop character she passes, from the passed-out nun to Nativity-scene donkey and fish-tank swimmer, is acting funny. As she writhes past creeps and artificial snow piles, she stops in front of Santa, who reclines on a chair with a camcorder and smirks. (He also happens to be Macaulay Culkin.)
We don’t yet know why she made this music video. Is this all just an elaborate Skims advertisement or is Kim just a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick? (She nods to The Shining in the film.) Did North watch Home Alone for the first time? Although Kim has always been kind of a wild card, her actions have felt especially random lately. She’s been zooming around in a mobility scooter and playing rock-paper-scissors with a Tesla robot. This is not her first foray into music, though it is one of her more interesting vanity projects, so I don’t mind it. But Macaulay, blink twice if you need help.
