The Biden Health Cover-Up Dwarfs the Wilson and FDR Charades

According to a Wall Street Journal report based on interviews with numerous Biden administration officials and aides, candidate and later President Joe Biden suffered from cognitive decline in his 2020 campaign and from the very beginning of his presidency, which caused campaign aides and White House staffers to limit his public appearances, adjust his schedule, limit his contact with Cabinet officials, shield him from news reports, hire a Hollywood voice coach to help with his “tone,” and take other steps to facilitate a cover-up to hide the President’s failing mental state. If true — and those with functioning eyes, ears, and minds during the past five years have no reason to doubt it — this cover-up of a president’s cognitive decline is the greatest political and presidential scandal — and media scandal — in American history.

It is a presidential scandal that dwarfs previous scandals involving Democratic Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt — both of whom suffered from cognitive decline toward the end of their presidencies. Wilson, during and after his cross-country campaign to persuade the American people to join the League of Nations after the First World War, suffered several strokes that left him physically and mentally unable to perform his presidential duties. His aides and his wife hid Wilson’s condition from the American people. Historian Paul Johnson noted that during a crucial time when the post-World War I structure of peace was being debated, America was officially governed “by an ailing and mentally impaired” president. Wilson’s wife Edith effectively became the nation’s chief executive for about 17 months.

FDR, in March 1944, was diagnosed with several medical ailments, including hypertension, heart disease, cardiac failure of the left ventricle, and acute bronchitis. FDR’s work schedule was curtailed. He was described as “a drawn, gray and exhausted individual, who became short of breath on the very slightest exertion.” Historian Jay Winik notes that FDR’s “cheeks were sunken and his hand quivered violently . . . [and] the skin under his eyes [was] dark and discolored.” He had trouble sleeping, and during the morning he was often too tired to perform his duties. He was plagued by daily headaches and a persistent cough. Those who saw him were shocked at how “tired and worn the president looked.” By the end of March 1944, Winik writes, FDR would awaken “tired and trembling … unable to work, barely able to concentrate” and often confined to his bedroom at Hyde Park or the White House.

Later, in early 1945 at the Yalta Conference, Roosevelt was a shell of a leader who made concessions to Stalin that eventually doomed Eastern Europe and China to communist rule. FDR’s aides and Democratic leaders previously sensed that FDR would not serve out a full fourth term if elected in November 1944, so they arranged for the replacement of Vice President Henry Wallace (who was notoriously soft on the Soviet Union) with Senator Harry Truman on the Democratic ticket. Wilson’s and FDR’s physical and mental declines affected the later years of their presidencies. It was a national disgrace that their respective aides repeatedly lied to the American people and the press about the president’s condition. Biden’s cognitive decline, according to the Wall Street Journal story, affected his entire presidency — and will continue to do so until Jan. 20, 2025. It means that for almost five years—during the 2020 presidential campaign and the four years of Biden’s presidency — the American people have been repeatedly lied to about the president’s frail mental condition. And the nation’s media failed to effectively inquire about and investigate the clear signs of Biden’s mental decline. Indeed, much of the mainstream media became an accomplice to the Biden White House’s cover-up due to their political biases and hatred of Donald Trump.

We simply don’t know who was actually making executive decisions for the country since Jan. 20, 2021. We don’t know to what extent Biden actually performed his presidential duties after swearing under oath that he would “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States.” It is imperative that Congress use its full investigatory power to answer these questions. Every key presidential aide, every Cabinet officer, and every medical professional who examined and treated the president must be questioned under oath about this conspiracy of silence and the cover-up of the president’s cognitive decline.
