Gaza death toll rises amid ongoing Israeli strikes

Health officials in Gaza have reported that 58 people were killed and 86 others injured due to Israeli military strikes on parts of the region.

According to Palestinian media, the strikes over the past 24 hours targeted areas of the Gaza Strip, including a refugee camp in the “Mawasi” region.

Gaza health authorities stated that the total casualties from Israeli attacks on Gaza have now reached 45,317 deaths and over 107,000 injuries.

Despite ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages, Israeli attacks on parts of the Gaza Strip continue.

The United Nations and international humanitarian organizations have consistently condemned the conflict between Israel and Hamas. They have accused Israel of “genocide” in Gaza, claims which the Israeli government has denied.

Recently, Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church, condemned Israeli airstrikes and the “atrocities” in Gaza. On Sunday, December 22, he expressed his pain, saying, “I think with sorrow about Gaza, about so much oppression, about children gunned down by machine guns, about the bombing of schools and hospitals. What cruelty.”

In response, Israel described Pope Francis’s comments as “double standards,” stating that he lacks “awareness of the reality and truth of Israel’s fight against global terrorism.”

The head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) declared that all rules of warfare have been violated in Gaza over the past 14 months, leaving Gaza exposed to unending genocide.

The ongoing violence in Gaza highlights the dire humanitarian crisis facing the region. The mounting death toll, displacement of civilians, and destruction of infrastructure have left millions struggling for basic survival.

International bodies and world leaders must intensify their efforts to bring about a ceasefire and humanitarian aid. The situation in Gaza urgently demands accountability and collaborative solutions to end the suffering and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
