New Pakistani envoy heads to Kabul for high-states talks
Mohammad Sadiq, the newly appointed Special Representative of Pakistan for Afghanistan, has announced his recent trip to Kabul.
On Tuesday, December 24, Sadiq posted on his X account that he led a delegation to Kabul, aiming to hold “constructive” discussions with Taliban officials.
He further stated that his visit to Kabul has been warmly welcomed by the Taliban, reflecting a positive start to his new tenure in this role.
Sadiq previously served as Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan from 2020 to 2022, gaining significant experience in managing bilateral relations during that period.
His return to this position comes at a time when relations between the Taliban and Islamabad had entered a new phase of tensions.
This visit comes amid escalating insecurity and a surge in militant attacks, including those by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The most recent attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the tragic loss of 35 Pakistani soldiers, highlighting the gravity of the security challenges faced by the country.
Sadiq’s visit is seen as a crucial step in rebuilding trust and fostering dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan under the Taliban’s administration. Observers hope that his diplomatic efforts will ease tensions and lead to stronger regional cooperation.
The success of this mission will depend on how both sides navigate their differences and address mutual concerns, particularly on security and border management.
