The wildflower meadow will stretch for five hectares and an additional 4,000 trees will be planted under the plans to “enhance wildlife corridors and create new ones”.

Under the plans, the new caravans will be decorated to blend in with the landscape.

The setting of the Grade II listed St Andrew’s Church will also be improved under the plans.

According to documents submitted to the local council, the proposed expansion will cost £20million.

The plans haven’t been approved by the local council at present, with a public consultation set to take place on January 9.

Local councillors Louie O’Leary and Peter Dickenson will also arrange an independent meeting with nearby residents about the plans.

According to the Dorset Echo, Haven said: “The proposed development has been landscape-led, with a focus on providing additional substantial planting and a variety of landscape features to mitigate visual impacts of the proposal and to provide a high-quality environment for park guests and neighbours.”

The huge expansion will bring 70 jobs to the local area.

Until the plans are approved, there are plenty of accommodation options and activities to keep families entertained at Haven’s Weymouth Bay Holiday Park.

The Dorset holiday park features an indoor swimming pool with a lazy river as well as an outdoor pool.

Weymouth Beach is just under a mile away too – and it was named the best beach in the UK by the Times’ 15th annual awards last year.

There’s also a new adventure village with a climbing wall, a high jump onto a huge inflatable pad and a mini zip line.

Other activities include an outdoor play area, junior Segways, archery coaching, a bungee trampoline and an inflatable arena.

Earlier this year, a Burger King opened at the Dorset holiday park.

Other food and drink outlets include an on-site restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served, as well as a fish and chip van.

Haven’s Weymouth Holiday Park has been praised by visitors, with a 4.3/5 star rating on Google from thousands of reviews.

One person wrote: “It was a great place to stay and the location was very good”.

Another added: “Another great Haven holiday park. Unbeatable value for money, top-of-the-range caravans in an immaculately clean, quiet and well-run, secure and friendly site”.

A third wrote: “The caravan is just great, clean, lots of space where you can stay”.

What is it like to stay at a Haven park?

THE Sun’s Dave Courtnadge recently visited a celeb-loved Haven park.

Haven’s Allhallows, set on the Kent Coast, is popular with celebs including Stacey Soloman.

Like the former Loose Women star, we had booked a gold caravan with a view over the on-site lake and the Thames Estuary, with Southend on the distant horizon.

The roomy living area had two double sofas with wide doors that opened on to a veranda complete with table and chairs for al fresco dining.

Back indoors, the kitchen was fully kitted out with a large oven, dishwasher, microwave and even a washing machine.

The kids charged into their room to fight over who would have which bed, while we took in our master bedroom, which featured an en suite and a walk-in wardrobe.

We used the revamped pool every day of our stay and it was lovely to watch the kids improve their swimming technique.

Then on top of all that there are arcades, fairground stalls, a climbing wall, fishing lake and a NERF Training Camp in an inflatable arena

Here’s everything you need to know about Haven’s new “ultimate family break packages“.

And they have already launched 2025 holidays – here’s how to book.
