Shaheen Afridi does not wants to play Test cricket? Star pacer drops bombshell on selectors
New Delhi: Shaheen Shah Afridi, the acclaimed pace bowler from Pakistan, has kindly requested the team’s management and selectors to rule him out of the impending Test matches. His motivation traces back to managing his workload and sustaining optimal fitness for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is slated for February and March. After revealing the team for the twin Tests in South Africa without Shaheen’s inclusion, Aaqib Javed, the interim head coach and chief selector, assured they are closely watching the pro pacer’s workload to prime him for the marquee tournament.
“The truth is Shaheen himself requested he not be considered for Test matches until the Champions Trophy is over,” a source said.
He shared that apparently, Shaheen sent word to the team management and the Pakistan board, notifying them about a substantial proposal from a squad in the Bangladesh Premier League. Assurances were also given that he would manage his responsibilities throughout the T20 league, which is programmed to happen from December 30 through to February 7.
“He assured the management and board the money was very good and he would look after his fitness and workload during the event so he should be permitted to play in the league,” the source said.
During this duration Pakistan will play two Tests in South Africa and two Tests at home against West Indies.
“Shaheen said he would be fully fit in time for the tri-series ODIs against New Zealand and South Africa followed by the Champions Trophy at home,” the source said.
“Shaheen told Aaqib he can be selected for tests once the Champions Trophy is completed,” he added.
