Alex Bregman To Red Sox? New Update On Free Agent’s Market
There only might be a few serious suitors left for Alex Bregman.
The Astros initially were expected to make a serious bid to re-sign Bregman, but trading away Kyle Tucker and signing Christian Walker effectively confirmed the star third baseman won’t be back in Houston. The Yankees, meanwhile, recently were expected to put on a “full-court press” to sign Bregman, but a series of costly moves might have taken New York out of the running.
So, where are the likeliest landing sports for Bregman at this point in the offseason? MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand provided insight Monday.
“The two teams I would look at are the Red Sox and the Tigers,” Feinsand said on MLB Network’s “MLB Tonight.”
Both Detroit and Boston make sense for Bregman. The upstart Tigers need a third baseman and could use a veteran presence in their young clubhouse, while the Red Sox long have needed an impactful right-handed bat. Bregman also knows each manager well, as he worked with both A.J. Hinch and Alex Cora in Houston.
Audacy’s Rob Bradford on Monday reported Bregman remained “a target” for the Red Sox after they added Walker Buehler, but the veteran insider noted the Tigers are pursuing the two-time World Series champion “most aggressively.”
