Pedestrian killed in Saturday night Wappinger Crash

WAPPINGER, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- On Saturday, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office responded to a car-pedestrian crash near Hackensack Heights Road. A 67-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at Vassar Hospital.

Around 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to the crash. A preliminary investigation determined the man was crossing Route 376 near Hackensack Heights Road when he was struck by a car traveling northbound.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, deputies said. As of Tuesday morning, no charges have been filed, as deputies believe the primary factor of the crash appears to be unsafe pedestrian crossing.

Detectives and the Crash Investigation Unit continue to investigate the accident. The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending family notification, deputies said. Anyone who may have information on the crash is asked to contact Det. Kurt Twaddell at 845-486-3828 or ktwaddell@dutchessny.gov.
