2005 Roster for NBA 2K6 (Xbox 360) Released

At long last, and more than a couple of teases on the NLSC Podcast, I’ve put the finishing touches on my 2005 season roster for the Xbox 360 version of NBA 2K6, and it is now available to download!

This is a minimalist project in that it’s limited by what can be edited in the Xbox 360 version of NBA 2K6, but the roster includes final 2005 season lineups with twenty missing players added, a few ratings updates, and fixed dunk ratings and accessories for the Legends on the All-Decade teams.

The roster is the result of an extended retro kick with NBA 2K6, and a renewed interest in minimalist modding. Inspired by revisiting basketball video game manuals for Wayback Wednesday, the readme file is also a labour of love, with some extra information about the 2005 season and tips for achieving maximum accuracy with the roster.

Download the roster here, and check out the release and support topic here in the Forum. Please see below for more information, including installation instructions. Huge thanks once again go out to wiscard_rush for helping out with some final pre-release testing, to make sure that the file can be re-signed and transferred to another Xbox 360! I do have some other ideas for minimalist rosters for NBA 2K6 in the pipeline, so stay tuned for them coming in 2025, along with some other projects for old favourites on PC.

Key Features of V1.0

  • Initial release
  • Final 2005 season rosters, accurate as of teams’ final games
  • All lineups (Starter, Bench, 3-Point, etc) set
  • A few ratings updates for Class of 2004 players
  • Accessories and dunk ratings fixes for assorted Legends

Installation Instructions

Before you can use the roster save on your Xbox 360, you will need to re-sign it so that it’s tied to your profile and console. For more information on the process, as well as copying save files to and from an Xbox 360, watch this tutorial from MrMario2011:

(Jump ahead to 7:42 in the video for information on resigning downloaded Xbox 360 save files)

The Horizon Xbox 360 Modding Tool used in the above tutorial can be found here.

NOTE: Although the roster shouldn’t overwrite any of your files – unless you happen to already have one called 2005 – you may want to back them up first. No responsibility will be taken for any lost data!

Extract the Content folder to your PC, and browse through the subfolders until you find the 2005.ROS file.

  1. Re-sign the 2005.ROS file to your profile, according to the instructions in the tutorial above.
  2. Copy the Content folder with the re-signed file to a USB drive that’s been formatted for use with an Xbox 360.
  3. Insert USB drive into Xbox 360.
  4. On the Settings tab, go to System and then Storage.
  5. On the Storage page, go to USB Storage Device.
  6. When viewing the USB Storage Device, go to Games & Apps.
  7. Select NBA 2K5, then 2005. Choose Copy.
  8. Select your Xbox 360 Hard Drive as the destination.
  9. The save will now be on your hard drive. If it has been properly prepared, you should be able to load it in-game.
