Wallace and Gromit’s most memorable moments as BBC animation finally returns after 16 years

THE ICONIC Wallace and Gromit are returning to our screens in a brand new adventure tonight.

It’s been 16 years since their last film appearance which was the 2008 short, A Matter of Loaf and Death.

However the pair – created by Nick Park – originally made their debuts with the short film A Grand Day Out back in 1989.

Now in anticipation for tonight’s Vengeance Most Fowl – we take a look back at their most memorable moments so far.

“A Close Shave” (1995) – Saving the Sheep

Wallace along with some sheep break Gromit out of jail and hide out in the fields then Wendolene and Preston arrive in a lorry to round up the sheep.

When Wendolene demands Preston stop the rustling, he locks her in the lorry with the sheep and drives away, intent on turning them into dog food.

Wallace and Gromit give chase on their motorcycle and when Gromit’s sidecar detaches, he activates its aeroplane mode and resumes the chase from the air.

A fan of the franchise believes that this is their best ever scene saying: “Gromit flying his side car always makes me smile.”

While deciding on where to go on their bank holiday, cheese-loving inventor Wallace and faithful Gromit find their fridge empty of cheese.

Reasoning that the moon is made of cheese, they build a rocket and fly to the Moon where they encounter a coin-operated robot.

Choosing this as his favourite scene, another fan stated: “Definitely the Rocketship building montage in A Grand Day Out. A real classic.”

“Yeah. The jazzy 80’s music is what did it for me.” agreed another.

“A Grand Day Out” (1989) – The Picnic on the Moon

When they make it to the moon they have a picnic with some unusual cheese.

Afterwards they encounter a coin-operated robot but when Wallace inserts a coin, nothing happens.

After he and Gromit leave, the robot comes to life and gathers the dirty plates left at the picnic spot.

The robot discovers a skiing magazine, and yearns to travel to Earth to ski there.

A fan said it’s a brilliant scene and commented: “The crackers Gromit! We forgot the crackers!! dramatic music starts playing.”

“The Wrong Trousers” (1993) – The Robbery

Wallace is trapped in his new invention Techno Trousers[/caption]

A sleeping Wallace is locked into Techno Trousers, and Feathers marches him to the museum in the trousers.

He infiltrates the building and captures the diamond, but triggers the alarm, waking Wallace.

Feathers marches him back to the house and traps him and Gromit in a wardrobe at gunpoint.

“That scene was so intense for me as a kid. Especially when the diamond falls from the grapple swings and is about to hit the laser…and then it does and the alarms go off! Kid me was like “Wallace Run!!” enthused a fan.

“The Wrong Trousers” (1993) – The Train Chase

The pair chase Feathers on the model train set

Gromit rewires the trousers to break open the wardrobe, and he and Wallace pursue Feathers aboard their model train set.

Wallace disarms Feathers and frees himself from the trousers.

After Feathers’ train collides with the trousers, Gromit captures him in a milk bottle.

A fan said: “I’m more of a fan of the chase from A Close Shave, myself. It feels more urgent and dangerous.

“But, being a human being with feelings and a sense of humour, I couldn’t help but laugh openly at the two minutes of straight antics that were Wallace and Gromit chasing around Feathers aboard a model train set.”
