Babar Azam on the verge of making history, just 3 runs short of becoming the first Pakistani player to…

New Delhi: Babar Azam has established himself as one of Pakistan’s top batsmen since his debut, setting numerous records along the way. The right-handed player is currently the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is and is nearing Rohit Sharma’s total to become the all-time highest run-scorer. He has accumulated 4223 runs in 128 T20I matches. Additionally, the former Pakistan captain has scored 5957 runs in ODIs.

Babar Azam has accumulated 3997 runs in 55 Test matches, just three runs short of reaching 4000 runs in the format. Once he achieves this milestone, he will make history. Babar will become the first Pakistani batsman to score 4000 runs in Tests, 5000 runs in ODIs, and 2000 runs in T20Is when he reaches the 3-run mark in the Test series against South Africa.

Babar Azam made his debut for Pakistan in an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2015. He played his first T20I and Test matches the following year. Babar was appointed as Pakistan’s captain across all formats in 2019/20, but his tenure was short-lived.

During his tenure, Pakistan was unable to reach the knockout stage of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Following the tournament, Babar resigned from his role as the captain across all formats. He returned as the T20I captain ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, but Pakistan couldn’t progress past the group stage. Although his time as captain may be coming to an end, he still has plenty of years ahead of him and has the potential to establish himself as one of the greatest batters in Pakistan’s cricketing history.

Pakistan vs South Africa series:
Pakistan will head into the Test series on the back of a 3-0 victory over South Africa in the ODI series. South Africa is a formidable opponent in Test cricket on home soil, and Pakistan will face a challenging task. The first Test is scheduled from December 26 to 30 in Centurion, while the second match will take place from January 3 to 7 in Cape Town. After the series against South Africa, Pakistan will host the West Indies for two Test matches.
